Milestones in our History

Since our foundation in 1895, KATO has made breakthroughs by using our creativeness and independent vision. Constantly taking the role of trailblazer upon ourselves throughout our industry's history has brought us to where we are today and we intend to keep striving to provide our customers with quality products and service.


1895
•Founded as the private enterprise KATO Iron Works
1923
1935
•Reorganized as a private enterprise and established as an incorporated entity, (KATO WORKS CO., LTD)
1938
1959
•Began production of hydraulic truck cranes and earth boring rigs
1963
•Began production of street sweepers
•Began production of paper drain machines
• Completed phase 1 construction of the Ibaraki plant and began its operation.
1967
•Began production of fully hydraulic excavators
1969
•Released the NK-750 jumbo, fully hydraulic truck crane, the largest in the world.
1970
•Stock listed in the 1st section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange
1980
•Began production of rough terrain cranes
•Began operation of the Gunma plant
1985
•Completed the New Headquarters building and celebrated the 50th anniversary of establishment
1987
•Released the all terrain crane KA-800
1995
•100-year anniversary of the founding of Kato
•Completed the NK-5000 (500 tons) truck crane.
1998
•Obtained ISO 9001 Certification
•Released the all terrain crane KA-900
2004
• Kimiyasu Kato was inaugurated as President.
•Released the rough terrain crane MR-130
